The United States is to 'double' its contribution to international climate financing towards the goal of mobilising $100 billion (€85bn) for vulnerable nations, US President Joe Biden has told the United Nations General Assembly

The United States is to "double" its contribution to international climate financing towards the goal of mobilising $100 billion for vulnerable nations, US President Joe Biden has told the United Nations General Assembly.

"This will make the United States a leader in public climate finance," Mr Biden told world leaders in New York, saying he would work with Congress to achieve the goal."Strongly welcome @POTUS further doubling climate finance commitment to over $11bn by 2024," said British politician Alok Sharma, who will preside over COP26.

The accord calls for public, multilateral and private financing of $100bn a year from 2020-2025 to assist poor nations already coping with floods, heatwaves, rising seas and superstorms made worse by climate change. "Climate vulnerable nations - particularly low- and middle-income countries - are already reeling from an unprecedented onslaught of climate-related disasters and desperately need financial support to adapt and build resilience to worsening impacts."

There is an assumption in some quarters that a campaign around a border poll will improve support for change but as fotoole illustrates that is a very big assumption Flipping from a United Kingdom including the North with a marginal majority of unionists to a United Ireland with the North including a marginal majority of Irish nationalists will not solve the problem. Northerners must learn to live with each other, then choose what comes next.

US to investigate treatment of migrants at borderUS Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said that the authorities would investigate reports that Haitian migrants in Texas may have been abused by border patrol officers on horseback. There are 15,000 emigrants under a bridge in Texas in heat of 40C... They have trucks on the border cooking tacos, giving out fruit and water. If they can do that for people who just arrived because of Bidens incompetence, why cant they do it for American homeless people?
