COP25 started in Madrid on 2 December

United Nations climate negotiations in Madrid are set to wrap up with even the best-case outcome likely to fall well short of what science says is needed to avert a future ravaged by global warming.

As pressure inside and outside the talks mounts, old splits dividing rich polluters and developing nations - over who should slash greenhouse gas emissions by how much, and how to pay the trillions needed to live in a climate-addled world - have reemerged. "We are appalled at the state of negotiations," said Carlos Fuller, lead negotiator for the Association of Small Island States , many of whose members face an existential threat due to rising sea levels.

"There are those that want to move quicker and those that want to hide behind things which aren't working, so as not to advance." "If my NDCs are already compliant with the requirements of the Paris agreement, why should I revise it again?" said India's lead negotiator Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Shameful stuff.

Association of Small Island States (AOSIS), many of whose members face an existential threat due to rising sea levels. Maldives have been saying that for decades........

I think RTE need to change the record for next year. People are beginning to get wise to this whole scam.

Well considering how all these hypocritical tax collectors seem to use private jets and other forms of transport to attend these junkets then they are basically talking out both sides of their face. doasyoupreach
