Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged Turks to stop buying French products and has accused France of pursuing an anti-Islam agenda.Mr Erdogan is one of several leaders in the Muslim world angry with France over its response to the killing of teacher Samuel Paty, who showed pupils cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad as part of a lesson on free speech.
"NATO allies and the wider international community must stand shoulder-to-shoulder on the fundamental values of tolerance and free speech, and we should never give terrorists the gift of dividing us." The teacher had been criticised by some in the local community for showing his pupils the cartoons because Muslims view images of the prophet as blasphemous.
President Emmanuel Macron called Mr Paty a hero and pledged to fight what he described as Islamic separatism, saying it was threatening to take over some Muslim communities in France.
Erdogan has little tolerances for civil liberties. So he should be ignored until he improves turkeys attitude to human rights
Macron is poking a wild dog hoping that somebody else will do the fighting for him Blasphemy laws in the past existed not to protect God or the Prophets but to protect against public outrage and unrest This generation of uber liberals needs to relearn that lesson
That's incredibly rich coming from the most oppressive Government LORD JONATHAN SUMPTION: These people have no idea what they're doing? We must stand up to this absent minded tyranny and oppression that has no rational basis whatsoever via MailOnline
Islam can't be given a veto on what is acceptable humour in France....To please Erdoğan in Turkey....France is secular country constitution does not recognise special position of Islam...
There’s a fine line between free speech & speech that invites hatred. The latter seems to be on the rise again. Macron could fix this. He could step back & consider how to handle this w/o letting it spiral.
You flubbers don't care about 'free speech' you're too busy lumping out doses of gutter trash propaganda on the people's ticket.
