Trump to sign social media executive order, says White House

US President Donald Trump will sign an executive order shortly regarding social media companies, a White House spokeswoman has said.

Spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany made the remark to reporters aboard Air Force One, traveling with Trump to Washington from Florida a day after Twitter Inc attached a warning to some of his tweets prompting readers to fact-check the president's claims. Earlier, Twitter had labelled two of Donald Trump's tweets "unsubstantiated" and accused him of making false claims, a first for the social network which has long resisted calls to censure the US president over some of his questionable posts.

The move drew a furious response from Mr Trump, who used the platform to accuse Twitter of "interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election." "Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as President, will not allow it to happen!" he tweeted.

Cuckoo....

Wow. Over 100,000 virus related deaths in his country and he's throwing his toys out of the pram over a social media website?! Wow.

What an idiot. Social media giants, like twitter, have deep pockets and will rely on the courts to overturn this childish prank.

He needs to sign an executive order banning stupidity and ignorance, oh wait, that would ban him too. Never in the history of humanity has any country ever has such an idiot as president, NEVER... America shame on you

More people dead in USA than two wars, and this is what the President is most worried about!

I hope they close his account

Full blown authoritarian dictator 🤦🏼‍♀️ 100k dead yet this is his effing priority 😣

In crayon?

This RTE piece is once again guilty by omission of key details. It makes no reference to Yoel Roth, who made the decision on behalf of Twitter. Roth is left wing extremist with a history of vulgar, anti Trump tweets and rhetoric. Social media giants need careful regulation.

Dopey Donald!!!

But isn't he trying to infringe on twitters right to free speech by telling them what they can say funny how it only counts as free speech when it fits his narrative such a childish response to been told hold on you might be wrong

This is only a distraction from the fact that his negligence has led to the death of 100,000 Americans

The EU has been trying to regulate them for years...Especially Facebook....They are monopoly industries....

Megalomaniac

Now for one real journalism Timcast

TheTweetOfGod looks like you have made an impact.

Feck, a talking White House.

justiceforcarolyngombell

The WH says a lot of things.

Nappy needs changing

Irish people with TDS....hahaha Pack of fannies defending billionaire megacorps. Much as you love their censorship of 'mean stuff' they aren't the arbiters of truth.

Good luck to him with that. These are nominally US companies but it's their Irish subsidiaries that actually own everything to do with the platforms. He doesn't have any meaningful jurisdiction.

Well obviously he will! Twitter has no right to fact check or correct our one and only, absolutely correct about EVERYTHING, lord and saviour Donald Twaaaaaaaaait a minute. Hang on. Nope. He's a sociopath that needs shutting up. teamtwitter

My god, he's such a moron! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

my god imagine if he had moved this quickly to deal with an actual issue that isn't just attached to his gargantuan ego

He can dish it out but he can't take it.

Man baby

And the company's will sue, the executive order will be found to be unconstitutional and life will go on as normal.

All he has to do is stop tweeting crap

Good. Twitter,Facebook,Google and Youtube should be broken up like they did with the rail, oil, gas and electrical companies.

Good luck to Twitter and Facebook.. toxic spaces !
