Tiny rare toads released into the wild after being rescued from dried-out ponds

Hundreds of the country’s rarest toads - measuring only half an inch - were released into the wild on Wednesday in a bid to keep their species from dying out.

Hundreds of the teenage toadlets were released under the watchful eye of Dr Ferdia Marnell from the Nationals Parks and Wildlife Service in the Castlemaine Harbour.“They measure about half an inch. They are tiny little things but they were ready to move. It was all done by ourselves.The farmers get a special payment for keeping the ponds but obviously with the wells drying out and the ponds drying out the whole population of the tadpoles would have died.
