Thousands will gather in Dublin today with the aim of putting pressure on the government to take action regarding the rising cost of energy, food and other essentials this winter.

Last week a similar protest took place in Cork, where hundreds chanted slogans like"the cost of living is rising, and so are we".

The group's demands included capping energy prices and rents, as well as introducing price controls on food.Cork North-Central People Before Profit TD Mick Barry told Red FM that the government is not doing enough about the"massive profiteering" of energy companies and other industries."People are choosing between heating or eating this winter."

The Cost of Living Campaign is a"grassroots campaign to fight back against the cost of living crisis".
