Do we pay too much income tax in Ireland?

, the Minister for Finance said on Wednesday. Or at least it would increase the income level at which people become liable for the top 47 per cent rate.

But do we pay too much income tax in this country? And is planning to reduce it a practical goal, at a time when there are so many pressures to increase spending?: The income tax burden here compared with other countries has always been a point of debate. Recent OECD data provide some clarity. The OECD data have typically shown that the income tax burden here is lower than the international average.

The average worker is set to be worse off after the next budget yet the government has just passed the motion on giving them all a pay rise. Ludicrous society we live in...

In comparison to other counties it appears like we dont, the problem after income tax is the VAT burden on a huge amount of purchases & services in the country. Add that 23% to your tax rate & its a very expensive country. Add all the other taxes, waste, t.v., excise duty, carbon

We get very little in return so it's a yes from me.

No, other countries pay far more but this gives them better benefits.

We don’t pay anywhere near enough income tax in Ireland overall but the spread is wrong. Very high invite earners can mitigate income tax exposure in a way that lower income earners can’t afford to do so but there are progressive features in the income tax system.

Yes

Champagne4Leo1 Is water wet?

It's not what we pay, it's how badly it is used. Crap public transport, crap health service, crap roads, no free education, no school busses, no affordable child care options, poor work life balance for workers, not enough prisons... I could go on, but you get the picture.

The issue is not do we pay too much . The issue is do we get good services for what we have put in ?

Yes

Yes especially when so much of it’s wasted by Government

You have to look at all taxes. We pay very high tax rates compared to the rest of the world for very little. The government always pull Norway or germany out to compare against which is a ridiculous comparison too.

The answer is always YES

If you pay it you know it. In your case there is no rip off tax so you will never be able to know it. You are not qualified to talk about tax people pay for you to shit on us

Yes. Next question.

This underqualfied kuntt knows we are, 80% tax across the board n bang 4 ur buck, TDs overpaid

Yes

Yes we do...

YES

If you have politicians you do.
