Minister for Public Expenditure Michael McGrath says Covid contingency fund will help meet some ongoing costs

“Ultimate costs will depend on the numbers of refugees arriving, the length of stay, labour market participation over time and the accommodation solutions provided. There is considerable uncertainty in relation to these elements and it is too early to say how much will be required from the contingency at this point,” he said.

Budget 2022, published last October, made provision for up to €7.5 billion in funding to continue the response to the Covid-19 pandemic and for the Brexit Adjustment Reserve. As of December 2021, €3.9 billion of this funding remained unallocated. In February 2022, the Government announced new measures to assist with the cost-of-living situation. This included the electricity credit to domestic account holders, which had an estimated cost of €400 million.

Remember when the childrens hospital was going to cost 400 million! How many children’s hospitals have we blown now

It’ll be way more than that. Lost tourism not accounted for and the new cost of building prefabs.

of course it did and has produced new multi millionaires and ensured FFG golden circle are doing very well with no accounting of where and who has benifited from the 200 million.

Give them fuckin no more

How many houses would this money have helped to build for both Irish & Ukrainians. Why isn't anyone looking for Michael to resign.

So which country will Ukraine be most grateful to - the UK who supplied javelin missiles and other military hardware or the Irish state which took in a disproportionate number of 'refugees' and destroyed their own tourism industry in the process?

Knightsatire Amazing - isn't it but I suppose it has to be done. They might not be in the EU but are in Europe - So is Russia. €200m at the drop of a hat would put a fair dint in the homelessness problem -has to be said. 450x4 bed houses -I'd say. That would be alot of kids off the streets😎

That's a waste.

I got a Ukrainian taxi man on Thurs at 1am when drunk in city center. He went longest way possible and shafted me about €15 extra with his journey!!

Ak83578774 Here's what Irish taxpayer money is funding:

550 new homes for our own citizens pissed away!

Ah sure it'll be grand it's only the extra vat we have been paying

€200 million ? Good value for defending democracy...

Close the floodgates Ireland is full

No problem with children going to school hungry this winter with the cost of living, a great little country

By spending this money we are freeing up Ukrainian money to pay for US weapons (because they will be expected to pay) to fight a war - that US angled for & that has the potential of bankrupting the EU. Weakening the the EU, Russia, and through other means China.

Better than the spending it on HAP scheme

Z

Fcukin hell 😡 enough already!!

Still €3.7 billion left in the Covid pot? Imagine all the grubby little hands trying to get a piece of that action. Wonder what other crap they will find to spend it on.

In a country with a dilapidated unfit for purpose health service , an unending housing crisis, food banks, a manufactured cost of living nightmare, this is way beyond reasonable. This is taxpayers hard earned money not Donohoes, not Master McGraths.

Covid contingency fund was to help us get back on our feet after lockdown imposed by Govt. Not get involved with a US Democrat party coup on another continent.

These wankers are great at spending other people's money.

Gotta promote democracy i suppose.

Basically €400 million & counting & I'd wager this a gross under estimate. I've said it B4, I'll say it again, Good intentions & equal treatment 4 all a good thing, but the shocking Shenanigans,Blatant discrimination of OTHER'S, is an absolute Disgrace rodericogorman HMcEntee

Just another mechanism for funnelling our money to the centralised industrial complexes while those instigating the conflicts laugh at the plebs waving their flags on either side

We are over a billion at present. Funny how this money was not made available to our own ever increasing homeless. That figure does not include the millions that were sent to the Ukraine itself or the expenses for zlenskis celeb hosting

Some war!

Money laundering, nothing more.

Not our war

If the American military industrial complex wasn't provoking wars all over the globe, and profiting mightily from it, maybe we wouldn’t have the problem of mass migration?

Ridiculous figure and we can't even guarantee that we can keep the lights on this winter. I hope your virtue signalling will keep you warm and toasty this winter.

It’ll be 200 billion yet

We are being had. Driving around in SUV's too. They obviously have money. Are they taxed and insured on their cars ? What about the NCT ? Ah don't worry about that, just penalise Irish people.

tazalot1981 That is scandalous, we need to cap it now.

EvelynSpring8 And?

They've got 60bln S , what r u on about

tazalot1981 The full priority of the next government should be to build a gulag for this one.

The Irish response was insane......

😡😠🤬😡😠🤬

Taxpayers money, pissed away by an incompetent government, in the hope that the EU paymasters look favourably on them when the go looking for a job after the next election because their parties have been decimated at the polls and the shinners roll up laughing their heads off.

Failed nazi state led by a US coked up corrupt puppet gets millions from a corrupt unelectable Irish EU WEF puppet gang

We are being robbed blind to pay for Ukraine a country that's not even in the EU we don't owe them a sausage. IDontStandWithUkraine
