Under plans announced by the Minister for Education Joe McHugh today a process has been set up by the Public Appointments Service to put the country's 16,000 SNAs on standby to free up frontline workers for essential services.
Under the centralised process other SNAs will be asked to work remotely with the children they currently work with, and their families, to advise and support them in meeting children's needs at home. However he went on to say that "having said that, some workers will now be able to put their skills and experience to further use". SNAs support children with a variety of physical special needs in class.
.. verify news before broadcast. If information is unclear then don't overdramatise it....
This should be interesting.. 'These SNAs will be advising parents on the child’s familiar school schedule (eg, toileting schedule, sensory break, story time or learning activities) and sharing stories to help the child’s understanding of Covid–19' 'advising' parents 🤣

So suddenly SNAs can be nurses or teachers or psychologists? Only too happy to be redeployed and help out but come on Dept of Ed. Rethink this.
SNA’s are not nurses, they can’t administer injections or medications & therefore can’t fully replace a nurse
What about reassigning teachers. All at home on full pay. Some doing a few bits with schools but surely they are better paid and educated. Could they not man help lines. They are the only sector not being redeployed
How can they practice social distancing they don’t have the correct PPE to work. They can’t simply use SNAs in this manner without the correct equipment
Old news. Reported in the Examiner on Monday
Teachers are still working, delivering lessons online, exams haven’t been cancelled yet
And what about the teachers? Not working, not taking pay cuts, use them too
Then who minds the SNSs children as they are off school.
Why not redeploy all the teachers also?
