The latest monthly homeless figures show a slight overall decrease. There were 8,656 people, including children, in emergency accommodation in September which is 46 fewer than the month before.

In a statement, the Department of Housing pointed out this is the first time that homeless figures have shown a decrease between August and September.

There are 1,128 families living in emergency accommodation, a decrease of 35.7% from September 2019, when the figure was 1,756 families. The deceased included a woman found dead in a tent in Clondalkin and a man in Dublin city centre, both discovered over the Bank Holiday weekend. "I am happy with the reintroduction of the eviction ban as part of Level 5 restrictions as this measure helped to reduce the numbers of those experiencing homelessness in the initial stages of the Covid pandemic and prevent further homelessness."

"[But] the number of single people in homelessness continues to rise. Year on year single homelessness is up almost 11%."

You fail to mention as usual homeless figures down but homeless people deaths up by 40% at a time when yet again we have to prop up RTE to the tune of €20 million to support all the massive salaries and even bigger egoes

I know there are a number of social, personal and economic factors to consider but there simply is no excuse for homelessness in this Country.

Ah sure that's grand so 👍

5 homeless people have died in the last 11 days why not ask DarraghoBrienTD about that and stop spinning for him.

It has reduced this week...by 5. Why no coverage of these deaths on the news?

Why didn't you report the deaths of five homeless people this week?

5 homeless people have died on our streets in the last 7 days! RTE won't report this news so I'll do it for them!

FocusIreland How many homeless people died in September? Is there a breakdown per month?

Really this is all you have to report after 5 deaths on our streets in past 48hours the latest in Wexford.

Still a disgrace. Poor kids..

This absolute shame for the republic.

Why because they have the flu 😷 I don't believe a word of it

You report this on behalf of your masters ff/fg, but barely report the homeless deaths?

FocusIreland Would be curious to know how many people have been housed in the quarter? How long are people spending in temporary accommodation?

Clothes are not essential items as per our government but do they agree homes are essential for everyone. what will it take for this to change in this country. These statistics are not acceptable anymore

Ya, most of them are probably just dying in the streets! Great for the stats though!

Progress is progress I guess, but not progressing quick enough.

Unfortunately those figures are only going to increased over the next 12 months unless we stop with the pointless lockdowns
