The National Public Health Emergency Team has confirmed that there have been six further deaths due to Covid-19 in Ireland. These latest figures bring the total known death toll of the illness to 1,645 in Ireland.
Speaking at today's briefing, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan noted that ICU and hospital admissions continue to decline, with a 90% rate of recovery from the virus in the community. Travel abroad now accounts for 2% of cases, with community transmission and close contact with known cases accounting for the rest.
This message was reiterated by Dr Siobhán Ni Bhriain, Consultant Psychiatrist and HSE Integrated Care Lead, who said; “As we emerge out of our homes social distancing can pose real challenges for all, especially those in our vulnerable groups who may be enjoying the outdoors for the first time in weeks. Protect each other by keeping a 2 metre distance.”
