Minister for Health Simon Harris has said that increased screening scenarios for the corona virus at Irish ports are not likely ahead of his meeting with the IRFU this morning.
He said: "[The meeting] is a chance for me to explain the rationale [behind the decision]. I do think the rationale is clear here. Public health has to trump sport". He said: "There is a public health difference to people deciding to travel versus people actually being in a stadium in a confined space.
Asked if St Patrick's Day was in doubt the Minister said that "wasn't the case at all" but said the Department was monitoring all mass events including upcoming St Patrick's Day festivities."People who are organising any sort of event should be plugging into the department of health, talking to our experts there and we'll be continuing to monitor the situation."
