Severe and damaging gusts are possible in western areas of the country as Storm Atiyah approaches Ireland.
A .Storm Atiyah will track between Iceland and Ireland with gusts of up to 130km/h forecast and possibly higher in exposed coastal areas along with a possibility of coastal flooding.Met Éireann said a Status Yellow wind warning will come into effect from 1pm until 6am tomorrow for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Tipperary and Waterford, with gusts between 90 and 110km/h likely.
ESB networks said its crews are on standby as they expect some customers to lose supply, with local authorities also ready to respond to any damage that may arise. Motorists have been asked to exercise extra caution if driving in affected areas, while a number of national parks in the west and south of the country will be be closed for the duration of the storm.The Zoo said it made the decision in the interest of the health and safety of visitors, staff and the animals.
