Schools should not reopen after midterm break unless safety improves, say unions

, however, said school communities “can be absolutely assured” that any necessary resources would be put in place to ensure a safe return to school after midterm.

Ms Foley said a significant factor in the decision to move to Level 5 of the Government’s Living with Covid-19 framework this week was that by doing so the Government can support our schools to continue to operate safely. Latest public health data as of October 19th shows that a total of 10,513 students and teachers have been involved in mass testing. This has resulted in the detection of 246 additional cases.

Exactly what additional safety measures are needed? I haven’t heard the unions offer any solutions or suggestions for improvement. Closing our schools should not be an option

Have the teachers unions woken up? Things must be serious.

so here it is there will be a extended mid term as the teachers unions will kick up and the government will just shrug its shoulders as usual

Daughter is being sent home this mid term with all school books as a “precaution” sounds ominous.

Piss off lads

So are all the teachers going on PUP then

So much for ‘we’re all in this together’ 😂

Unions were adamant all along that they prefer to follow 'public health guidance.' Well, that has been declared, repeatedly and unanimously, so what is the issue?

It is completely reasonable to make calls for the highest safety possible in our schools. Teacher haters calling for them to be put on PUP are not helping in the slightest. It's one of the stupidest suggestions going.

Quel surprise

Even if... Christmas time is better. Do not put them on the same bad experience with state exams again. Stop thinking about yourself. When you decided to be a teacher you took the responsibility.

Special schools should be protected. Hygiene, sanitation, small class sizes were already normal in these schools. These children can’t engage in alternatives, remote learning etc. These children have been the most disadvantaged by school closures in the past.

Would unions be calling for this if the schools closed and kids took holidays and staff put on PUP payments then work though out summer to make up time. Kids need education let unions call for strike action and let the teachers see how much support they would get

Cases will be below 400 a day by the time mid term is over

Ffs. Why are people so desperate to deprive the youth of education on the grounds that ‘it’s not as safe as it should be’ whilst ignoring that the knock on effects of keeping them locked up will do far more damage. Leave them be. They’ve endured enough

Jokers

The government must stop paying teachers full wages if the schools close, maybe then they'll be willing to do there job without complaining.
