RTE viewers were deeply divided last night as RTE Upfront facilitated a debate around sex education in schools.
They discussed the sex education reform and the impact that being exposed to pornography can have on young minds.Josepha Madigan confirmed that the Reformed Sex Education curriculum has gone to Minister for Education Norma Foley for final approval and that it does refer to pornography in the new program.
A teacher, Eoghan Cleary, also contributed from the audience saying that in his experience, children as young as eight were accessing pornography online. Viewers on Twitter were shocked by this revelation, with one user writing: "Jeez this is utterly depressing to hear the teens' experience. An overhaul was definitely needed to the Sex Ed Secondary school subject, Parents also have a huge role to play & should be teaching their sons to respect girls & women."
