'While there is caution, there is also an impatience to lift restrictions, which – the poll suggests – is likely to grow once the elderly and vulnerable are vaccinated,' writes Pat Leahy on the latest Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI poll

With the extension of the current lockdown, and the prospect of a slow and cautious reopening commencing in April, the coming weeks will see fierce debate about the nature, pace and timing of the lifting of the Covid-19 restrictions which have now been in place since Christmas. gives an insight into the views of the public on the issues that will be central to that debate, and to the decisions that will follow.

Thats the reason they are slow walking it

The blatantly obvious impacts seem to be now only dawning on the journalism profession. Small biz has been decimated while large biz benefiting enormously, eg supermarkets, large online retailers, wholly facilitated by weak govt n zealots FineGael fiannafailparty ISAGCOVID19

Thankfully so . EnoughIsEnough

Absolute goldfish-brained stuff

Public support is already gone. It's time to move on live life as we want not as MichealMartinTD &LeoVaradkar want us to. Public needs to come back together as they have devided us and make ireland great again.

It will become a regular / integral part of the general mix of seasonal respiratory infections and our immunity to it will match that of cold, flu etc over time .. it's here to stay.

Public support for public executions is on the up

It’s already has been nose diving and for a decent whack of time

It has already nosedived, anyone who has done an iota of research knows that that we are being lied to, this is about control.

1st April the finalized numbers for 2020 deaths will be out An appropriate day Maybe people will finally realize they’ve been fooled

They have already lost us. Enough is enough.

LD5679 Lockdown is a lazy solution to covid. Irish government should be looking at EU to see how they're handling covid, antigen test for school kids, mandatory quarantine in hotels for people travelling in etc. Covid has shown us how incompetent this government is!

I don’t think your survey really shows this.

Shameful misleading nonsense from the Irish Times which also lied to people in December that opening was safe & any risk was worth it. 2000 deaths later & that clearly wasn’t the case & yet you want to do the same again

There are a lot of younger not vulnerable per se people with long covid symptoms out there. Some of them have cardiac issues and as a result they may end up with reduced life expectancy.

Risky : only the vulnerable vaccinated would mean a fourth wave very possible / probable

Really heartening to see how much you've learned from when you were part of pushing the premature reopening last time and loads of people died and we're in a catastrophic state now. Just stop.

Public support for Globalist policies and Plantation evaporated a long time before this phony pandemic. But yeah go ahead push your vaccine of monkey cells and aborted human fetus kidney cells that interferes with your RNA for an illness that 99.6% recover from.

Are homeless now vaccinated

Especially when they are misled by some media.

So roll on the next lockdown. Collins, Leahy, and the rest of the Greek Chorus in Irish Times will be rubbing their hands with glee.

This is shameful, even for the IT.

Once elderly & vulnerable are vaccinated there is no reason not to open. The damage our economy & society has already gone through is too great to even consider extending it. The suggestion of keeping restrictions on business/ travel in Ireland post vac shouldn’t be entertained.

'Covid' is a mild respiratory illness for the vast majority of people. Once any interested vulnerable are 'vaccinated', everything should reopen. The people of Ireland have sacrificed everything they possibly can for a year. It's not their role to carry the HSE's burden further.

I don’t get what the problem is after they are vaccinated?

Well duh. Who else is lockdown protecting.
