Speaking at the annual Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony at the Mansion House in Dublin President Michael D Higgins warned that despite the economic recovery '’an ugly anti-migrant sentiment is attempting to rear its head in Ireland’

President Michael D Higgins has said it is ''deeply worrying'' to witness the rise of extremist language and politics in Europe.

As a ten-year-old boy he escaped a round-up of Jews in his native Poland and fled into the forests. Jan survived but his entire family died in a death camp. Campaigners Tomi Reichental and Suzi Diamond will recount their personal stories about surviving the Nazi regime as young children. Mr Higgins said this ''misused nationalism and populism'' are a reminder of just how fragile democracy is.

This years ceremony was also attended by Kinga Paszko, who was born in Poland, but is now based in Co Dublin.

How the hell did this fraud ever get to be President of Ireland?

raven_salem13 I don't think it's the immigrants as much as the homeless on the streets with nobody seeming to give a fiddler's but when immigrants legal or otherwise are the problem all of a sudden there's accommodation, health care and benefits. It's the policy not the people at fault

Nobody is anti migrant, it's mass uncontrolled immigration that's the problem

What there is a legitimate and growing anger at arrogant government ministers like Charlie Flanigan who thinks he is above the law and makes up immigration rules on a whim. We want a fair immigration system governed and enforced by laws or there will be increasing push back.

Hilarious output from the president of Ireland. Lad has zero input about all the Irish homeless.

Rest assured if you vote for the same money hunry people that have been limping from issue to crisis that we will overcome these sentiments with uncontrolled immigration, no added police presence and a metric ton of guilt for anyone who questions any part of it. Ireland 2020

The Irish Holocaust?

What a virtue signaller!! 🙄🙄🙄

So tell me Michael MichaelDHiggins, where do you stand on Israel adopting the same level of immigration as you wish for Ireland?

We can't cope with our own don't mind bringing in migrants...
