Today's poll: Would you use the payments app being planned by Irish banks?

Image: Shutterstock/A. Aleksandravicius Image: Shutterstock/A. Aleksandravicius IRISH BANKS SEEKING to set up payments app, Synch Payments, to rival digital challenger banks, were dealt a blow last week.

Over the last few years, fintech firms like Revolut and N26 have expanded their operations in Ireland, offering online current accounts and instant money transfers. Many people feel Irish banks have left it too late to compete, but four Irish retail banks — Bank of Ireland, AIB, Permanent TSB and KBC — were moving ahead with plans for the app.

However, the project hit a speed bump last week with the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission rejecting a merger notification submitted by the four banks. We want to know: If it gets the green light, would you use the payments app being planned by Irish banks? No Yes I'm not sure #Open journalism No news is bad news Support The Journal Your contributions will help us continue to deliver the stories that are important to you

Revolut is a first class piece of tec Where's the Irish banks I wouldn't trust them to tell me what day we have Bad enough they have that ex mep running the banking federation ,ex fine gael lackey boy , Stick with revolute ,secure in the knowledge 100 safe & secure

Absolutely no doubt Brian Hayes commissioned this poll!!!!

No

The app will be free to use initially. However over time various charges will apply along with stricter term & conditions. Remember irish banks have the highest mortgage rates & lowest int rates in europe. They destroyed the irish economy and many peoples lives. Stay away.

once revolut get a proper banking license there screwed.

I wouldn’t do anything that supports these banks that destroyed our economy and many lives

Why are you asking? Did the banking sector ask you to find out or are you selling on information based on people’s opinion on this topic?

I would invite you all to open a new account with N26, use the code enriquef2478 to open an account and get 20€

It’s clear the journal makes money from the data in these polls.

No

Nope. If they make money from it, not a hope!

No. They'll prob start charging us for using it. Only reason the irish banks are still in business is because the irish gov guarantees some of ppls money in them, otherwise, they're useless. Highests rates for everything in the EU, banks that can only make $ by charging ppl.

Revolut all the way

No....have Revolut....the banks will make it too complicated somehow.

No

The whole point of using revoult is so the banks can't see what you are spending your money on. Why use their app and give them more control

No Irish banks are robbing bas&ards

No thanks i have Revolut

Think it's a brilliant idea,

Eh. No. Revolut is there. Its free. It works. Why use a reinvented wheel?

Good God..no

NI has more pressing issues than a border pollTwo issues have emerged in Northern Ireland - travel arrangements amid the pandemic and pressure for a border poll, writes Tommie Gorman. This last year has shown more than ever the need for a border poll and a United Ireland. Every single party in Ireland needs to start planning for a poll, 2030 would be the ideal date for me. Micheal Martin is too weak to do anything about either. Tip toeing about like a mouse. Tommie, it is precisely because of partition that divergent responses to the pandemic have delayed and undermined an all island approach to tackling Covid and putting in place the best possible measures to defeat it.
