Image: Shutterstock/Derick Hudson Image: Shutterstock/Derick Hudson THE FOUNDER OF Supermac’s has called for a review of the government’s Pandemic Unemployment Payment , saying it is akin to “winning the lotto” for many part-time workers.
“Where we have a mother and son working for us. He’s a student, he worked eight hours a week, he got somewhere between €80 and €100 a week. She was full time, and she has to look after elderly parents, and rightly so. And both qualify for the €350 Covid payment. I think she should be entitled to get probably €450 or €500. And on the other hand, I think the young lad should get no more than what he was making when he was a part-time employee, and that will incentivise him to come back to work. The payment of €350 a week is due to expire mid-June, however, the Minister for Employment recently said it “will absolutely have to be extended” beyond that point.
Speaking on the same programme, Labour TD Ged Nash said he could assure McDonagh that “no one is living high on the hog on PUP”. McDonagh told McInneary that the business can’t afford to pay employees higher wages to incentivise them back to work because of the way the company has been hit financially by the pandemic. He said the company would be lucky break even this year.In a report published this morning, the Economic and Social Research Institute advised against cutting the pandemic payment, warning that austerity measures could worsen the economic downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic if undertaken too soon.
A multi millionaire thinks 350 is too much for those who do his donkey work... giving less hours to pay them less, making it difficult to build a life... scratch the surface to see what they really think of the workers..... sickening attitude..🤮🤮
Super macs wont see me again...asshole!
He is correct. Working 9 hours a week now getting big increase in pay. 🙄Only in ireland
God forbid his employees may actually be afforded some security
paulmurphy_TD He’s right. There are people who were on 80e a week and are now on 350. My office can’t get the cleaning staff to come back because they are on more with the covid payment that their normal wage. That’s not sustainable but Paul wants more free money for people
Omg I hate capitalism so much ffs
He’s completely right. I work around 12 hours per week part time in a retail store while I go to college and i come out with around €450 per month. Now I get €350 per week because the shop is closed. €1,400 per month!
Keep punching pat I love getting a beating frim the perceived privileged like yourself . My safe word is punch harder .
What a miserable (miser) ....
Sorry cant give up the burger sauce. Im afterall a Galwegian. Sure hes a Fine Gael supporter. Their all tight fuckers! Him and Una, fat as they come! 🤣😂
Euromillions this week: €17M. Pandemic payment this week: €350. Not quite the same thing... What's that? I hear scrambling to say? Yes, true, you probably won't be winning the lotto every week. Also, CSO estimates 100,000 workers in Ireland live below the poverty line 🤔
There’s a certain crassness to it right enough
Why are we not hearing from PearseDoherty MaryLouMcDonald sinnfeinireland about these false claims?
Love how the ceo of the company are blaming this lad for been on 350. It's not his fault he lost his job Like what was he suppose to do go hey I'm not entitled to 350 so I won't apply for anything? If they where that bothered should applied for the wage scheme.
Well Y'all know what to do now BoycottSupermacs. Imagine actually working for this absolute fucker. The contempt he has for his workforce just shines through. And they get charged €1.60 a day for food.. Whether they eat it or not.
When I saw the headline I thought ''fuck Supermacs'' but if you read it. He had a kid working 8hr week getting 350 while his 40hr mam only gets 350 and she has to run a house and care for a parent. Giving her more and him less is fair. And he called for sorting Maternity mums pay
Bloody right it is.
What a disgusting rat that Pat McDonagh is. Such contempt for his slaves or what he calls his workers. No wonder he can't get more people to work for him. Wouldn't you just take great pleasure in kicking his hole for him for a day. Absolute knobhead.
Read the whole article. He said some people deserve more than €350 pw
Attacks on Supermacs, sponsored by....? Are we intent on destroying all Irish business or something?
Giving genuine people a bad name. Hope cheats are caught
Says a lot about the wages he pays
Only because it shows employers up
Revolution_IRL Strange he is adopting this approach as he is making his millions out of such workers
Scumbag
Well let's hope they will be paying back the extra tax not us the ones that were kept working
Used to enjoy a sneaky SupermacsIRE on the way to Dublin now and then. Never again. A lot of masks starting to slip this last week.
Super macs is just a box of greasy chicken only to be had after a feed of drink.
If only McDonagh the Incredibly Rich paid his workers a decent wage....
Bit of an exaggeration but I see his point
Disgraceful comments from him. Pay your workers a decent living wage!!
The scheme extension should be sectorally focused and not blanket
I am not a part-time worker, but I see everyday how those people are exploited. Many times they are even more qualified than the businesses’ owners. The headlines should be “People that used to exploit cheap labour, now face the fear of having their businesses closed down”.
This is called FineGael ness , LeoVaradkar ran a leadership campaign on it and continues unabated to this day , why not it got him where he is.
Always easy to say if you're a CEO who pays part time wages ....
True story.
Superman staff being charged 1.60 per day for meals there , whether they avail or not is a small windfall for him that’s he’s probably missing these days now
He ought to pay his staff a proper living wage then.
Junk food baron Pat McDonagh no different from the CEOs of tobacco companies who profited at one point selling cigarettes to children, in years to come whenever we fully appreciate the catastrophic effects on public health McDonagh & co will be regarded in the same light.
I'd be extremely disappointed if I won the lotto and got €350 Pat.
Someone who lost their full time job in a bar a week in before the plandemic now gets 200 a week. A person who started the week he finished even if only doing 1 night for €80 now gets €350..Crazy
It's disgusting. I've been to a store once, never again.
The Irish equivalent to Tim Martin of Wetherspoons who suggested his staff go work in Tesco rather than paying them. If Pat MacDonagh paid his staff properly I am sure they wiuld be very happy to go back to work
The fact is these “lotto winners” will be spending there money in the economy we are tying to re-start! Leave them have their €350! It’s hardly living the high life ffs
We never consider the fact these people accused to have won the Lotto will probably be the first ones to have no job when we restart due to companies cuts. The money they're getting now could be very useful to them in the next few months. So detached from the real life reality
Pat McDonagh What do you Expect from A Pig only A Grunt is Worth €120 Million Euros from Selling disgusting vile food in Ireland to Irish SuperMacs Dublin Cork Limerick Galway
Covid 19 killed Supermacs, hopefully this type of attitude by employers will be highlighted and other companies will be shown for they are no better than slave labour Disgraceful
And they raised it to €350 why exactly? Disabled people live on a lot less than that.. Plus, how can people go back to work until their employer is in a position to reopen? These people must take the electorate for fools.
That'll tell you how poor the pay is in SupermacsIRE then.
Yeah, c’mon he needs a new yacht or something.. dick.
paulmurphy_TD There is nothing you can say about Pat McDonagh that will stop me eating Supermacs. Nothing.
Whilst I dont agree what he said , you should have the same outrage for supermarkets , pubs , restaurant owners as well. Oh and BTW SF are only looking to increase the min wage by €1 an hour! We need to invest in better jobs not just increasing the min wage
Is he actually for real! Most companies will not allow part time workers to work any less than 22.5 hours a week divide that by €350- not even a living wage!!!!
A lack of a living wage was never more evident Mr Super MAC himself should look at Aldi’s rate of €12.30 an hour he’d have a fair que for his jobs then all the big boys want is 0 hour contracts and as little per hour as possible
Get those lazy leeches back to work. That's why we can't have nice things.
Wow a millionaire telling the pesents that 350 quid is like winning the lotto where would that be back in fucking 1910.
I mean if anything it shows a large portion of the labour force very underpaid and shows the need for a living wage, But hey yeah let's shame people for being given a payment during an actual pandemic
Here's an idea, don't give it to part time workers? Part time = jobseekers , full time = PUP
Never visit Supermacs again when the CEO can speak that way about his workforce answer him better to consider paying them a proper wage he discuses me
Ivory Tower cones to mind 😠😠
Says more about him as an employer, than it does about his poor unfortunate employees!!🤔
Never step foot in the place again.
People that was suppose to get the payment was never considered.. I think the social department should have checked the background of the applicant before giving the payment.. Again mishandling by the government
I won't spend another cent in SuperMacs
Could be the end of his empire .
And this prick charges his staff for meals. He's a disgrace.
I will never spend an other cent in Supermacs, Pat McDonagh would do well to pay his staff a living wage. Covid payment lower than minimum wage, minimum wage lower than living wage just goes to show the measure of the man.
Just shows that the minimum wage is not a living wage.
In completely unrelated news, I've just remembered I can recreate their warm muffin and ice cream at home with a microwave so need never visit again.
Bring it in line with the dole
Maybe he should pay staff more then?! He is a fairly wealthy chap afyer all?!
