The Chief Medical Officer with the Department of Health has said the news of an identified Covid-19 case in Northern Ireland will not change the department's procedures in addressing the virus in the Republic

Northern Ireland's Public Health Agency has said that the patient is receiving specialist care, and they are working rapidly to identify any contacts the patient had.

On people who may have concerns who were on board the flight with the infected person, Dr Holohan said the HSE will be making contact with anyone who has been identified to have been sitting within two rows of the infected person. On whether the individual travelled on public transport, Dr Holohan said if that information was relevant to the case, then it would be provided to the relevant authorities, and would form part of the contact tracing process.

Paul Reid said that if Ireland sees its first cases, the HSE would look at increasing the surge capacity in the system.Mr Reid said that what had happened in Europe was moving things towards a higher risk phase. Earlier, a professor of microbiology at Trinity College Dublin said there is no need to panic but preparations should be made for Covid-19 and consideration given as to how the impact can be lessened as much as possible.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland has said that the Government is not working closely enough with 'at-risk' groups such as themselves in relation to the coronavirus.

Was it a Catholic or Prodestant virus?

They're behind the curve and the major political parties are scrambling right now wondering who to blame.

lookner

I still can't understand how the Coronavirusireland passed the leaflets and hi-viz jackets in dublin Airport that was our best line of defense. 🤷🏼‍♂️😷🤮☠️🇮🇪☠️

While they talk about this virus they are not talking about the things that we have control over, things that save lives and improve health.

The flu is responsible for 200-500 deaths each year in Ireland. In a severe season it maycause up to 1,000 deaths. Every year, hundreds of people are hospitalised with flu. flu causes up to 5 million cases of severe illness worldwide and kills up to 650,000 people every yr - WHO

The plan is there is no plan

😷It's the eldery and infirm I'm most concerned about

They don't want people to panic yet they will not reveal what date she travelled, what flight she was on, what train she was on, how did she get from the Airport to a train ? We have a major information vacuum, people are entitled to this information.

SimonHarrisTD Do other passengers on that flight have to self quarantine? Or what is the protocol for those passengers. COVIDー19

Ye lot will be held accountable for your complacency.

😷In the last week stockmarkets are falling severely around the world. Its certainly a massive crisis

😷Failing to prepare, is preparing to fail

What fecking procedures. Friend of mine flew back 3 days ago... From China...., all was asked was so you feel OK, if you feel sick stay at home... 14 days it takes for symptoms to show!!!!

Close airports, what about the ports with ferry’s from UK, France, Belgium. How about cargo ship also calling to ports, do we close them. Matches, schools, public transport, concerts. Complete lockdown, it will arrive, accept & deal with it.

I worry that the Department of Heakth and a HSE will be slowly reactive instead of decisively proactive. I don’t think that Ireland will be an ideal place to be an elderly person with Covid-19

That's dumb.

Zero confidence in their ability or want to limit this

Well done Leo putting off building the border wall🤦🏼‍♂️😆 Coronavirusireland

😷IRELAND THIS IS SERIOUS. But the Government value profits over people so they won't lockdown the country. Alot of eldery will die from this😟

If they can't deal with thousands of ill I don't how they can deal with thousands of ill more.

😷FDA in the USA warning of a shortage of drugs in the long term due to upcoming combat of coronavirus

Hard border NOW....

A quick phone call to the ESB asking them to cut the power to Dublin,Cork,Shannon & Knock airports for atleast the next 3 weeks would be a sensible enough procedure. We still don't know the damage Patient zero in Belfast has done,no point in adding to the infected count needlessly

Are the 'procedures' public? Does anyone have a link?

Only the two seats in front and behind the passenger never mind everyone else he was near. Chief medical officer talking some rubbish

STOP THE FLIGHTS curtail it

😷CDC in the USA warning people to prepare as significant disruptions to lives inevitable

This person arrived in Dublin Airport and travelled to Belfast!!
