An Garda Síochána will introduce a number of new initiatives next year, from incorporating major changes on a diversity level to shaking up the current sartorial aspect of the day-to-day gig.According to Commissioner Drew Harris, the organisation will welcome 800 new recruits in 2022 as it celebrates its centenary year.
"Being more reflective of the society we serve will enhance our ability to provide an effective police service for all people. "While we have one of the highest levels of female police officers in Europe, we fully recognise that this is not replicated when it comes to minority communities," Harris continued.
The recruitment campaign intends to reach out to groups and individuals from those aforementioned communities in due course."We have already started this work with initiatives such as our Intern Programme, changes to our uniform policy, the establishment of the Garda National Diversity Forum, and the representation from diverse and minority communities in the Garda Reserve.
