A survey of over 1,000 women in Ireland found there is a preference for types of contraception which are proven to be 'least effective' in preventing pregnancy

New research has found that there are serious misunderstandings and misconceptions among Irish women about contraception and fertility.

Almost nine out of ten cited pregnancy prevention as the most important factor when choosing a form of contraception. Almost three quarters of respondents said they had experienced contraceptive failure in the past and they were using a condom or male sheath when the contraception failed. The Dublin Well Woman Centre said it is experiencing a growing demand among women for Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives, which it said is proven to be a more effective form of contraception.

The Group found that barriers to accessing contraception exist for some people, including lack of local access, cost, embarrassment, inconvenience and lack of knowledge.

The pill can cause serious life long side effects or kill you a condom can't. It happens more often that people realise. If taken for a year even for other medical issues it can cause the blood to clot and give someone a stroke. Clots in the head are especially dangerous.

come on RTE. we are all waiting for your usual dose of 'misery porn' postings on how we are all going to die a horrible death if we even THINK of wanting to give a loved one a hug. someone is slow today.

The problem is by allowing abortion in Ireland we assumed women would act like adults and be responsible. Big mistake.

I wonder if contraception was free, would it actually save money in the long term? Also it would be great to educate girls and boys on contraception. Most only only use one form but you can use more than one type of contraception to further prevent risk of STDs and pregnancy

Hold on. How could this happen when nuns and Catholic Church controlled schools are teaching young adults about contraception for decades now?
