Michelin-starred restaurant L'Ecrivain to close after over 30 years

L'Ecrivain on Baggot Street in the city centre has held a Michelin star since 2003 but will be shutting up shop at the end of July.

The popular restaurant first opened in 1989 and employs 30 people - they will keep their jobs with the creation of a new venture later this year, Dublin Live reports.L'Ecrivain will go up for sale upon its closure, and the new Clarke led restaurant, which he has described as "a cool space", will open in September or October.

Derry's wife Sallyanne, who many would recognise as the front of house face of L'Ecrivain, plans to continue more of her work on radio and television as well as taking on consultancy roles, the Irish Times reports. Speaking about the closure, Derry said: "We want to leave with heads held high and with a successful business, which it still is. We are a long time at it and it’s time for a change.

"We are very proud of our time in business and we feel that the time is right to end on a high while the business is still relevant and successful."
