Met Eireann is forecasting "wintry" showers, which are expected to bring snow to hills and mountains in Leinster and Munster.

"It will be heavy at times with a risk of thunder in Connacht and Munster. Much of Ulster and north Leinster will stay mainly dry until evening.Some parts of the country will experience snowy conditions on Wednesday night, as temperatures plummet to as low as -1C. "The rain and sleet will clear southwards overnight with clear periods following and with frost and icy patches developing.Meanwhile, Tuesday will be a chilly day, with hail showers possible."Clear spells in early this morning with ground frost in places. Rain in Ulster will extend southwards over much of Leinster today, turning more showery.

The Met Eireann forecaster added: "Tonight, scattered showers will continue for a time, but will become isolated.
