All 25 fraudulent claims are related to the man arrested today

Conor HeneghanA man in his 30s has been arrested as part of ongoing investigations into payment fraud related to the government’s Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment .

The investigation is linked with up to 25 separate claims made under the scheme, totalling in excess of €56,000 to date, all of which are related to the man arrested on Thursday. Gardaí from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau , on secondment at the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection special investigations unit, arrested the man following a search of a house in Mulhuddart in Dublin 15. Documentation and notebooks were also recovered in the search.

The man was conveyed to Blanchardstown Garda Station, where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.On Monday, the Department of Social Protection revealed that it had this week issued payments valued at €153.6 million to 439,000 people for the Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment , a decrease of 26,900 recipients on the previous week.
