UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is under mounting pressure to order a widespread lockdown after thousands of people ignored calls for "social distancing" to slow the coronavirus pandemic.
Conservative former Cabinet minister Julian Smith said he would support "any measure" the government brought forward to force people to comply with the guidance. - scene of the world's worst outbreak - where the death toll passed 5,000 over the weekend. But at his daily No 10 press conference yesterday, Mr Johnson indicated he was reluctant to ban people from going outside for a walk or to exercise because of the physical and mental health benefits, as long as they acted responsibly.
Mr Smith, the former Northern Ireland secretary, said: "Many people have recklessly ignored government advice this weekend. "If voluntary social distancing measures are not adhered to, the government must bring forward their plans for stronger action."

Let’s hope not but with schools open and a govt which lacks perspective, usually acting on wisdom of hindsight, it’s up to individuals to stay safe. UK school are open, hospital and school staff don’t get tested and the Church of England, every there for homeless&poorest is SHUT.

Italy’s response has been better managed than Britain because idiot BorisJohnson saw coronavirus as a chance to kill the poor, the elderly and the vulnerable.
Ireland will be the same if the gov't doesn't start punishing people who refuse to comply with the HSE guidelines. In Jordan, if you leave you home, you get an automatic year in prison. In Italy, if you've the virus and leave your home, you will be charged with murder.
