The horrific murder of Ashling Murphy proved every time they cross the door for a walk, a cycle, a jog they are putting their lives at risk.
Equally, domestic violence is out of control and thousands are living a nightmare being battered and bruised in their homes. In Ireland 87% of the women who had their lives taken from them were killed by someone they knew - a partner or an ex-partner. The remaining 13% were attacked and murdered by strangers. Half of those who died were under 35.However there is no doubt the fear that is out there among women.
The Minister for Justice Helen McEntee wants to bring in zero tolerance to all violence against women and she is right. Each and everyone of us must back her and have our part to play.
