Minister for Sport Shane Ross has said there is no option but to call off the Six Nations clash between Ireland and Italy next month.
Yesterday, the association sought "specific reasoning" behind the minister's call to cancel the game on 7 March. Officials in Italy have been forced to cancel a number of sporting events, including two PRO14 rugby fixtures set to take place on Saturday. It said it would not comment further until it gets an understanding of the Government's "strategic policy on travel to and from Ireland and the cancellation of mass gatherings".
Mr Ross the risks involved with going ahead with St Patrick's Day celebrations next month will also have to be monitored and that a decision will have to be taken nearer the time.
Seems like a cop-out from Simon Harris. Would have thought that it's not up to the IRFU to make medical decisions with respect to stopping an event. If there's real risk then it's the Gov's responsibility to ensure the risk is minimised. An advisory doesn't seem strong enough
IRFU are more interested in money than public health.
