In a statement to be delivered this morning, Forbes will once again criticise the 13% of households which are evading the licence fee.

Forbes will speak at an Oireachtas committee meeting this morning. Image: LEAH FARRELL Forbes will speak at an Oireachtas committee meeting this morning. Image: LEAH FARRELL RTÉ DIRECTOR GENERAL Dee Forbes is set to renew her appeal for TV licence reforms when she appears before a panel of TDs and senators in Leinster House today.

“The current licence fee costs the equivalent of 44c a day, of which RTÉ receives the lion’s share,” she will say. Forbes will compare RTÉ to the structure of the BBC, which is funded through revenue it receives from a licence fee-paying population that is over 10 times the size of Ireland’s. The broadcaster has been trying to return to profit for years now, selling off land at its Montrose site in Donnybrook, and more recently putting acclaimed pieces of art up for auction.

In matters religious, RTE is still the Vatican's Outreach Station in Ireland.. the waste promoting the papal jamboree in the Park; lots of time for Bishop D Martin's shifting of communion prep to outside school, but no mention that only 1 in 7 City Dubs marry in RC Churches...

And what about the. Diabolical Xmas programmes. And the 40 and. 50 year old films. They resurrect from the dungeons. Awful

It's a waste of money.

It might... MIGHT! ... be fair value if: 1) there were no advertisements on television; 2) if there was good, interesting programming; and 3) if they weren’t robbing the citizens to pay outrageous pay packets and bonuses to mediocre presenters. NO. It’s not good value, as is.

It is not fair value if you don’t use it. Get your foot out of your mouth and stop talking. Unless you are just saying things to get people wound up?

its the 83 % chumps we need to work on. Getting them to move with the times AWAY from RTE

Maybe if it wasn’t so expensive more people would pay

So Dee-lusional Forbes back spouting the lie that RTE is value for money. deeforbes_dee rtept ScrapRTE ScrapTVlicence

She will criticise them but do sweet f**k all about them.

The problem is 'star' presenters get 400k wages. One especially doing 2hrs work per day. That's €800 an hour. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

No idea why we are forced to pay for a service we don't want. The news is state sponsored propaganda, the quality of the rest of program content is crap. Just not appealing, if they were private they would be gone on long ago. This is like a early church collection

If it's such great value why not let me choose to buy it or not?

Clown

How can they say evadining? Is there lads hiding behind couches they have on camera ? Plenty do t have a license as it’s not required if you dont have terrestrial tv but watch them go for the wages being docked via tax option for all

Here Forbes fuck of into the kitchen ya witch 🧙‍♀️

44c a day to subsidise a failing public broadcaster that I don't even watch. Comparing RTE to a subscription service is ridiculous. No one in their right mind, would pay good money to watch that rubbish. If it's such a good deal, let them go private & see how they fair.

No. It is not. It lines the pockets of a useless little clique. The quality of programming is utterly amateur, the radio - banal

We already pay fo our internet and I don’t have a tv

We pay her wages let her not forget that we should have a strong say in the farce that is RTE plus if she worked in the private sector she would have been sacked by now

I hope I'm not included in the 'evaders'! I don't have a TV, I don't watch TV, simply because it was only gathering dust and never being used. I'm happy to pay Spotify subscription because I use it daily. Times are changing, TV licence fee needs to change too.

Pay per view, or shut it down.

Should be pay per view. That would reflect the quality of their content and help improving it

FFS 44c a day is fair value! So answer me this how is it value for my household when None of us watch RTE. Yes we hold a current TV licence but we dont watch it. 😤

Fair value, if you watch it maybe. Nothing on it but reruns and shite.

Hardly worth it, fat cats, tired programming and a biased media. Give other channels some of the fee. fail rte

I’m happy to pay my license- RTÉ do a nice job on current affair and sport -

We already pay enough bill's for sky/virgin media , internet and mobile services... Why pay for a useless tv license 🤑

Please tell her to go away....sink more money in the Black Hole...time for these wasters to be put out to pasture!!!!

deeforbes_dee you made a great point comparing your service with that of subscription services. Make RTE a subscription service then you can charge what you like. I've watched RTE about 4 times in the last 10 years, it's simply not fair to charge people for it.

If you don’t receive it you shouldn’t have to pay.

She needs to do her job better instead of blaming citizens.

Irelands fittest family..Operation Trough..🙄

Bong Bong Bong Bong Bong Bong BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG

The repeat after repeat station, now just waiting for Panti Bliss to get some managerial role at rte. 😂

€160 to be bombarded with far left ideology?

How is it 'fair value' when RTE broadcast Nothing worth watching?!!!

Ms Forbes might want to look at her own house first. Despite the fact that Gay Byrne (arguably rte Most famous person) died of Prostate Cancer in Men's Cancer Awareness Month, rte did exactly NO Programmes on Men's Cancer. If only October was as free of focus on Women's Cancers

She didn't speak about the people she has on bogus self employment contracts working in RTE, evading taxes.

She's delusional. What a colossal waste of money. They earn enough in ad revenue without scrounging off of the public. Worldwide RTÉ player freebies should be scrapped for a start. Not to mention the abysmal line up they offer. They haven't a clue.

I don't watch rte so why should I pay for a service I don't use. Grossly overpaid mediocre on screen talent run by an incompetent management team. Scrap the licence fee and make it pay per view. If it can't operate within its own means then let it die

Evading the licence fee.... by not having any equipment which can receive a TV signal and who therefore are not using the RF spectrum, the thing which is licenced for use by the TV licence (for money which RTE do not receive). Has the meaning of the word 'licence' changed?

Online isn't terrestrial TV, a computer monitor isn't a television and people watching things online via phone , laptop etc. owe RTE nothing.

Brother Kevin saddened at children facing homelessnessThe founder of the Capuchin Day Centre has described the homelessness crisis as absolutely appalling, and appealed to the Government to build more homes to tackle the issue. It doesn't saddens the government and their pretend opposition though. Such a blemish and shame on our society. When we come out of the womb we all have high expectations that we will have a great life for as long as we live. Anything that will extinguish that hope, like poverty and homelessness need to be driven out of our society right now.
