'It's bringing hell back again': Clare families brace for further flooding as River Shannon rises

Image: David Raleigh Image: David Raleigh RESIDENTS OF SPRINGFIELD, Clonlara, Co Clare, were evacuated from their homes and more were braced for “hell” and “misery” as the flooded River Shannon swept around their homes.

“It’s bringing back hell again. Politicians just don’t seem to care. You’ll get the politicians here when the media arrive, and when they get their faces on the papers and on the television, they go away after that, and that’s what they have been doing since 1995,” said Joe Quinlivan. In 2016, the family spent an exhausting seven weeks, night and day, pumping floodwater away from their home.

Plans by Clare County Council to construct a nearby embankment and pumping station have been put on hold.

Big flood relief pipe to Dublin would help.
