The Government is expected to close all non-essential services from Wednesday amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and his Cabinet are currently discussing "significant new restrictions" recommended by the country's top medical advisors. Referring to the Leaving and Junior Cert exams, Mr McHugh also said his department “really want to make those exams happen”. He said the department is working towards holding the State exams on "the dates that are defined for this year".
