The amount of land planted for forestry in Ireland in 2021 was just a quarter of targets contained in the Government’s Climate Action Strategy, the CSO has confirmed.
But this was amended to just 8,000 hectares after significant licensing difficulties for planting and felling were encountered by the Department of Agriculture. The CSO Afforestation Area 2021 report found while the percentage of broadleaf species - considered better for biodiversity than the more predominant Sitka spruce – amounted to 41 percent of the area afforested in 2021, the bad news was that farmers’ share of overall planting had declined every year since 2010.
This applies to everything. Energy security, carbon emissions, public transport, infrastructure etc. We always fall short on everything.
pick a topic and we fall far short here in ireland housing health education the list is endless and yet our gov continually award themselves payrises. in the private sector they would be sacked for being inept. but hey d people watch it happen the oul 'im alright jack' approach
This will be blamed on S.F. Tomorrow in I.T. An article by Pat Leahy or Stephen Collins- 'Why are S.F failing to plant trees'. SF are in power in N.I, and yet they are failing to plant trees in the Republic. Read my article, by Miriam Lord.
