For a club that hasn’t played senior football in almost 20 years, Oughterard are poised for a baptism of fire this afternoon.
By that stage, Corofin were already All-Ireland winners, the north Galway outfit making history the previous weekend by winning the title for the third year running.Oughterard boss Tommy Finnerty said: “What you’re dealing with is a machine, Corofin are a machine. I believe Kevin O’Brien has been in charge for 40-odd games and they’ve only lost one. Those kinds of stats are unbelievable really, I don’t think they’ve ever been achieved before.
“I would compare this challenge to the Division 2 champions taking on Dublin. That’s probably what the difference would be.” Finnerty said: “Matthew is a good player but very young and still developing. To be fair to all the lads, throughout the entire intermediate championship they all stepped up at different stages.
