Some local authorities fail to take into account and cater for the particular needs of people with disabilities by offering inappropriate housing options or choices, according to a Social Policy report published this morning

'The Right Home: The Housing Needs of People with Disabilities' says some people with disabilities can spend up to ten years on the social housing waiting list.

While 0.14% of the general population were homeless in 2016, this figure stood at 0.3% for people with disabilities. However, it says the outgoing housing strategy did not fully or successfully address the housing needs of people with disabilities in its implementation. Local authorities vary greatly in the manner in which they make information available and facilitate and enable social housing applications by people with disabilities - some local authorities proactively encourage and support applications, others are seen as presenting obstacles to engagement.

The report says that in practice, many disabled people cannot avail of HAP as suitable accessible/adapted housing is not available on the private rental market.

You do realise that China has a system of govt that works and citizens are generally happy with. The citizens protested re strict Covid laws and Govt relaxed laws. As one who spent several years in that country I saw none of this totalitarianism so often spoken on in the West. Nor did I hear this totalitarianism mentioned by many. I did see a lack of homelessness, aggression, muggings, extreme poverty, hooliganism, graffiti and such. Women could walk the streets 24-7 free from fear and most people had a smile on their face. Is that totalitarianism? 3. I also visited Urumqi in Xinjiang. It reminded me of Belfast 1970-80s with police and army guarding all public buildings and strict parking restrictions. This kicked off about 10 years ago when Muslims killed 27 Chinese in Kunming Railway Station. The Chinese then clamped down

Great to see progressive social insurance coming into Ireland The standard rate of social welfare should be €0... Government breeds lazy and demanding generations... It should start out at half your weekly salary and decline to zero fairly rapidly.
