HSE chief operations officer Anne O'Connor confirmed the move for Oaklands Nursing Home in Listowel after an outbreak of Covid-19 earlier this month.

Last week, Listowel District Court made an order for the HSE to move in and take over the nursing home. It’s important to say that when we step into a nursing home to be the provider, we don’t own the nursing home, that is the actual building. And so we have now made a decision to move people out. As of today, we started working with families and residents. In an inspection in June, Hiqa noted that there was “insufficient staff supervision”, in particular around ensuring staff were adhering to infection control best practice.
