A new phishing scam targeting people who may be waiting for Covid-19 tests results has been revealed today. The scammers falsely pose as official communications from the Health Service ExecutiveThe scam first sends a message that appears normal to create a legitimate looking text chain before sending the second message asking for a payment.In a screenshot of a text chain from the scam, posted to Twitter by broadcaster Eoghan Corry, the scammers appear to know the names and ages of their targets.

The scammers may be hoping that the person they have targeted is waiting for a Covid-19 test or test results, and so may click on the link. A Health Service Executive spokesperson told RSVP Live: "Some people may use this pandemic to try and get private information from you. This is known as 'phishing'. You should never give your bank details or PIN to someone over the phone or online
