The High Court heard the 68-year-old died three days later in "very distressing circumstances".His family took a medical negligence case against the HSE.The family claimed that Mr Comerford was re-admitted to hospital two days after his hernia surgery with shortness of breath, abdominal pain and low blood pressure.
After being admitted to the intensive care unit, he suffered two cardiac arrests and died on 21 March 2011.It read: "We apologise to Mrs Comerford and to her children and extended family for the events leading to the death of Mr John Joseph Comerford in the 21st of March 2011." Speaking outside the court, Mr Comerford's daughter, Karen Brown, said she is happy the case has come to an end but is "disgusted" that it has taken this long.
She said: "It's sad my kids have missed out on their granddad. They adored him for the little time they knew him".
An apology after 9 years, and a court finding, is a legal necessity, and as insincere & comtemptuous as the incompetence that started 9 years ago. HSE more dysfunctional than the Health Boards it replaced and always will be. Rip it up and start again.
Oh my lord! They cant even do a hernia repair!! who allows these Doctors to operate? are they truly qualified?
Fair play to them pursuing what is the most painful reliving every day of their brother, son, husband, father sufferings. My own dad went into hospital 6 years ago for a ‘routine’ checkup on a Wednesday afternoon and died the following Monday. They are more than just numbers.
