Polls show voters are deeply divided in their views on the level of curbs currently in place

Taoiseach Micheál Martin at Government Buildings in Dublin, where he addressed the nation on Tuesday evening. Photograph Julien Behal Photography/PA WireMRBI poll highlights the extent to which the Government is damned if they do and damned if they don’t when it comes to any easing of coronavirus restrictions.

Voters are deeply divided in their views on the level of restrictions currently in place. While the largest proportion agree that the level of restrictions is about right, 31 per cent feel that there are too many restrictions damaging business and the economy and a further 24 per cent think that there are not enough restrictions to safeguard the health of the population. We may no longer be “all in this together”.

The problem is that the government are now doing exactly what NPHET tell them, NPHET have gone from giving advice to actually running the show. A show that has no balance, a show that's more or less zero covid strategy.

Wait what have the government down for us that was proactive? 💁🏼‍♀️🤡☕️

The poll is pretty clear on low level of support for ZeroCovid (30%). I dunno how ISAG can possibly claim otherwise. Surely almost universal buy-in needed for what they want (e.g. colour-zoning counties)? They have never addressed how these harder restrictions might be enforced

They DON'T more than they DO !!

Who is in charge of IT tweets? Time fire a change of career I think!

Rubbing their hands in glee so.. A divided society is easier for them to control..

They are not damned for doing or not. They are damned because they have proven themselves to be incompetent at every single turn. There is not 1 of them that has shown a shred of empathy or competence. They just sneak around and smirk at those who are suffering. FFGOut

We are Irish, we are never divided, stop spoutin crap

No the government are there to lead not to rule. They have taken advice from NPHET and no one else. Politics is making informed decisions about all of society not just health. They are damned because they did not do their job.

A lot will sit at home unaffected by this. They will be ah we have to see what happens while others are struggling either mentally, financially, medically etc.....

People are divided because some ppl can still have jobs to support themselves, some getting to save money. Some ppl haven’t had the issue of missing medical care / surgeries.

No you are not dammed if ya do, dammed if ya don't. To much confusion from 3 different parties, is the problem, meholes only conquest was to become leader, Varadkar is pissed with a 3 party government, Ryan is banning life without infrastructure.

Magical thinking. NPHET has explained that it is not possible to lift all restrictions when elderly and vulnerable are vaccinated. This was a very misguided question to ask and will sow more division.

Incorrect - people aren't opposed to restrictions..they are opposed to restrictions being disproportionately placed on Irish citizens when our borders aren't adequately monitored and our public health not adequately resourced..the government is not damned if they get these right!

You have the people on protected state incomes be it benefits/pension or those working for the state in some cases looking for harder restrictions just for the sake of it,thrm you have the rest of us,and beware of the rest of us.

Keep going we will as a society get over this together fingers crossed

Nah, the govt is just corrupt and working against it's own people
