In a hilarious tweet, the Gardai clarified the situation for any uncertain fowl-hunters, explaining that recreational hunting "does not fall under any of the exemptions allowed for exercise or sporting events." While the shooting of animals classed as "vermin" – including rats, crows and even foxes – is permissible as an "essential support service" to farmers, those who hunt for sport have been told to leave the guns at home.
The Government has come under fire in recent days amid a dispute over whether children's clothing should be classified as an essential product.
