The Chief Medical Officer said that in general terms the advice is that mass gatherings should not take place indoors or outdoors

Gardaí are investigating a potential breach of Covid-19 regulations during an anti-racism demonstration which took place in Dublin city centre yesterday afternoon.

In a statement released this evening, gardaí said that organisers had made attempts to put in place social distancing measures on O'Connell Street where the protest began. Speaking at a briefing at the Department of Health this evening, the Chief Medical Officer said that in general terms the advice is that mass gatherings should not take place indoors or outdoors.

It shouldn't take a bunch of Sherlocks long to figure that one out.

This thing about ‘the advice’. Why investigate if it was only an ADVICE.

Will the masses in this country start to listen to the real scientists & experts if there is no infection surge in the next week & no surge in deaths 3 weeks later (WHO figure)? - the seasonal virus peaked months ago & lock-down was pointless. TurnofftheTV FlattenTheFear

This march was irresponsible and will help spread the virus. Those chanting 'I cant breath' will be lucky if they don't end up on a ventilator and others because of their actions.

What else can the Gardaí say Of course they have to investigate 'mar ya'. That will be the extent.. Too much time wasting on a silly investigation that will have no end result

All the people protesting yesterday are scum bags and are fools for protesting about a foreign police force. What utter morons it’s say to see how these muppets could jump on any bandwagon even during a pandemic , they should be dealt with harshly

Let them vent and later repent.

It's not the 'advice' it's supposed to be the f**kin law so enforce it. I can't visit my mother in nursing home but I can take part in a mass demonstration against something that happened 5000 miles away?

I think logic would dictate that it did breach guidelines.

Who organized this ? They need to be held accountable.

Will have to pay into the Bucket on line 🤗

Sherlock Homes is spinning in his grave if this needs investigation.

This is what privilege looks like in Ireland, middle class Dubs thinking the law doesn't apply to them.

If?

Disgrace. What is everybody putting months of sacrifice in for. Too late now. Can we all just do what we want now? It was let happen, simple as that!!!

If? It obviously did

Tell us something we don’t know

Advice ? Not law

Obvious that the rules were breached

Stable door and horse... Should the the Gardai not have been checking the protesters to see who was outside their 5km distance. Anyone who was could be sent home and anyone that wasn't could stay and protest. Most likely would have been a much smaller protest.

M Martin and E Ryan are right. The distance restrictions make no sense when applied to people who are prepared to keep away from others. But people can go less than 5 km and hold a closely-packed demonstration. Physical distancing is the crucial line of defence against the virus.

Holohan speaking out of both sides of his mouth. Repeats the advice against mass gatherings but admits a 'sneaking regard' for their motives. That demonstration was the biggest breach yet of social distancing, even worse than the crowded beaches.

Social distancing is a thing of the past. Head to Howth beach or Sutton beach and you'll see what i mean. Hundreds of teens gathered together today. Train stations were packed.

Hopefully none of these people were around any of the 1000+ that are infected, if nothing negative comes out of it and last 2 weeks then it could be used as a positive for mass gatherings

No investigation into Gemmaroid and her loons....

More wish wash when it suits. Portmarnock Beach today is packed with teenagers. They watched the news yesterday and now believe the lockdown is over.

'Should' is a recommendation but not legally binding. Endangering other lives by protesting about another. That rally should not have happened but how can there be a prosecution.

What is there to investigate? Stevie Wonder could see it breached regulations

No mass gatherings is the law I heard the Taoiseach say on the tele. As far as I’m concerned every single one of them at the protest yesterday should have been arrested
