Voters across the UK believe Scotland is likely to become independent within the next decade - while more than half of those in Northern Ireland want a referendum on a united Ireland in the next five years, according to a series of polls

DUP leader Arlene Foster has said it would be "absolutely reckless" to be distracted by the topic of a border poll at a time when it is about "coming together" to fight against a pandemic.

Ms Foster said it is disappointing that some nationalist parties across the UK during a national crisis are "trying to take this opportunity to talk about constitutional politics". The First Minister said this conversation has been going on for 100 years. The Sunday Times commissioned the series of surveys across the UK to gauge attitudes towards the Union.

In Northern Ireland, 47% still want to remain in the UK, with 42% in favour of a United Ireland and a significant proportion - 11% - undecided. Across all four regions, more voters expected Scotland to be out of the UK within 10 years than thought it would still remain. YouGov polled 1,416 English adults between 19th and 20th January, and 1,059 people in Wales aged 16 and over between 18th and 21st January.

This is building up to another Brexit type divisive referendum.

United Ireland my arse. My country is fcuked. Inhabited it seems by hordes who are so locked into the past they make dinosaurs look recent. I do not want another 0.5 million, actually make that 1.8 million, whining maggots entering the fray. 99 years on and we haven’t moved a cm.

i do hope us in the republic would get a vote on this

No wonder

NI air & sea ports infrastructure alone will be worth billions of €€€s to an all Ireland economy!! Grim britain will not be missed & unionists fanatics will respect democracy or be treated like any other criminal!! think32

SenatorMarkDaly What about a ‘creative compromise’

Leo and all those who wanted to celebrate the RIC/Tans are hating this.

Still way to many questions. What flag? what national anthem? Policing and military? Health service and education. Role of the catholic church in education. Government and politics. How about create what the new country would look like before the vote and not make it like brexit.

Before or after the great RESET, agenda 21/30 build it back better, communism model. Klaus Schwab. RTE: FOR ALL YOUR JUNKIE NEEDS APPLY HERE AT RTE HEAD OFFICE. PROMOTIONS FOR ALL SUPPORTERS OF PEADOPHILES AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING. LIARS HERE RISE TO THE TOP, JUST LIKE POND SCUM.

The way the sinn fein is running the north is a shambles.. The way the handle the covid situation is a disagaces.. United ireland would not lead to peace..

The UK will only survive if England get's a devolved parliament & the other regions get a stronger say. If Scotland leaves, that's it, the UK is over. The best it can hope for is a Union with Wales & England.

We would take back the north. Money has nothing to do with it. Majority on the island know it’s right. The government in Dublin don’t want it. SF would automatically be the biggest party by miles.

A lot of voters are happy the way they are. As long as their money goes into their bank accounts via wages or benefits they aren’t interested in a United Ireland. Why rock the boat?

Only because of BREXIT, however southern Ireland need to vote too to determine if they want this unification. Plus if BREXIT collapsed will NI want to flip back?

Big changes coming to Scotland and Ireland. Their pro-British citizens may even find that an independent Scotland and a united Ireland are more successful outside British rule. Look at America, it did ok.

Once Scotland goes, thats the end. England won't subsidise the north. They're money will stay in their pockets for English Healthcare.

If Ireland is serious about convincing unionists they would have a happy home in it, the state needs to start doing things to prove it. Early win would be to join the Commonwealth.

It’s not going to happen in the North we love our nhs too much !!!

the good folk in the south don't want the Northern trouble makers.

One nation Tories = English nationalists. This is a clearly anticipated outcome of a purely nationalist event.

The founding of the Northern Ireland state was divisive on sectarian lines, gerrymandered to keep Catholics a minority. This is now coming to an end and not soon enough.

shane_div DarraMcc can Ireland afford to take on the North?

What’s ironic is England will say that there is strength in Scotland and NI staying staying in the union........ it really makes you think

The remarkable thing about this is that despite the Tory Government and Brexit, support for Scottish Independence remains weak (except in England). The Nationalists mistake is to hitch its wagon to an increasingly unpopular EU.

Forget about an United Ireland. It will lead to violence again. We don't need bombs and murdering.
