Fine Gael has announced it is putting forward 13 candidates for the Seanad elections who have been nominated by the party.

Former TD's who lost their seats in the recent election Tom Neville, Michael D'arcy and Noel Rock have been put forward. However, Kate O'Connell, who also lost her seat, has not been included on the list.

Other candidates nominated who had stood unsuccessfully in the general election are Emer Currie, John McGahon, Aisling Dolan, John Paul O'Shea and Garret Ahearn. Councillors on the nomination list for the party are former Mayor of Waterford John Cummins, Michael Carrigy and Sharon Tolan. There are also a number of candidates already nominated by outside bodies for the election which will take place at the end of March, including former TD Sean Kyne and former Senators Catherine Noone and Gabrielle McFadden.

Jobs for the boys 😉

Get rid of it🙌🏻 Why do we need so many politicians for such a small country🇮🇪 it’s ridiculous🙈

I fail to see the point of the Seanad, we have an elected chamber in the Dail. The Seanad is a holding area for failed politicians to resurrect their careers.

Sham democracy

So all the rejects from the general election get put forward for a handy number. Shouldnt be allowed. The people clearly said they didnt want them.

sinecures for rejected politicians, at the tax payers expense.

The Seanad should be publicly elected.
