A search is under way this morning for a young boy who it is believed fell into the River Boyne in Drogheda last night.

Gardaí were alerted to a report that a young boy had fallen into the River Boyne under the Bridge of Peace at around 10.15pm last night.

It is understood a number of witnesses contacted gardaí and an extensive search of the area was carried out. The Coastguard helicopter and volunteer divers from Drogheda River Rescue were involved in the operation, which was stood down in the early hours.
