A formal announcement of the new restrictions is expected to be made around 9pm.

Ministers have been told that a move to Level 5 can be expected to potentially bring the number of Pandemic Unemployment Payment recipients back to the level seen in early May in all sectors, apart from those given carve outs, such as construction and manufacturing. Sources say while most of the retail sector and other non-essential business will have to close, there are still some outstanding issues still to be decided by Cabinet.

said it was important to get any decision on new restrictions right, adding that it was important to get balance right between public health and commercial activity., Mr Brophy said Level 3 wasn’t delivering a sufficient reduction in numbers.

Could the govt not have tried a review after 4 weeks?

Hmmmm. Celebrate Christmas with large gatherings? So lock down in January?

And all the while the WHO's advice is: don't resort to lockdowns as a means of controlling the virus. They don't work. Neither do masks BTW. And there's no such thing as asymptomatic🙄

NO

Government and nphet to all go on covid 350 for 6 weeks, we all in this together...

Amazon ?

Can we ask do we all come out of this after 6 weeks the answer might keep us sane

And then when the cases rise again there will be another lockdown

Patronising!

Well fuck

Two weeks too late. NPHET was right all along, and it was people like LeoVaradkar who delayed the implementation, causing massive new cases and new deaths. Varadkar should resign.

Closing the borders when the virus started would of saved us alot of hassle, clearly that would make too much sense for this shite government.

He's nearly always photographed on his own. It's like nobody wants to be seen with him
