‘Sudden and sharp’ decrease in cases in care facilities shows effect of vaccines, briefing hears

The HSE said it is working actively with GPs to address supply “issues” that have arisen in recent days in relation to vaccines. This follows numerous claims by GPs and Opposition politicians alleging unequal or inappropriate distribution of vaccines. In the Dáil, Labour leader Alan Kelly claimed younger staff at a childcare provider in Co Wexford were inoculated for Covid-19 out of sequence.

Most adults aged between 18 and 69 years will be administered the AstraZeneca vaccine, Nphet officials also confirmed, with a small group of immunosuppressed people likely to be given mRNA vaccines such as Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna if available within a three-week timeframe. “For the time being, non-essential travel needs to be restricted,” leaders of the 27 states said following a video conference on the pandemic, attended by Taoiseach Micheál Martin.

Do you imagine, if 5% of population being vaccinated produced a sharp decrease in cases, when 80% will take the jab we ll become immortals. Amount of stupidity around this island its unbelievable

🤣🤣 is it though? Or is it because numbers in care homes decreased already due to deaths b4 vx and no more admissions as people are in fear of sending their elderly 2 homes? Because the people has access to info from around the 🌏 showing how many elderly have died after vx 💉

So then start opening low risk stuff

When was Ireland ever normal? 😂😂

Are NPHET trying to stay relevant bt issuing statements every couple of days.

If this isn't enough proof for the activax Gemmas out there then nothing would be. The day I get my shot can't come soon enough.

'Cases' are now, for this purpose, being defined as ppl being sick. But the other 'cases' that we'll hear about later on the news , still involve a lot of ppl who aren't in fact sick. Btw, to get on Nphet you have to have been a master juggler in a chinese circus for 5 years.

This period of decent weather will see Ireland appear 'close to normal' in a few days, already kids playing and hanging out in large groups is a very visible sign. And that's the reason for the constant propaganda, to 'remind' us that things aren't normal. EnoughIsEnough

Didn’t they say this last year? EndTheLockdowns

We only need another 20B so

I hope that’s not a political comment, the nation has had enough of FF and FG, we need a new political normal, the people didn’t vote for a FF/FG government, the party’s manipulated the democratic will of the people, which rejected both parties, and gave no mandate to any party

Once they have the majority hoodwinked then this will go on and on and on and on and on.

Glynn you are as bad as the Doctor if Death CMOIreland. Scaring the population and spouting lies so you can try to stay in limelight. Noone heard of NPHET prior to this and you will disappear again. Parasites is all ye are

Anyone who believes this is a gullible idiot

Cool, hopefully everyone that wants a vaccine is covered by then and there aren't too many variations floating about. As someone who is high risk I'm happy to stay in as long as we need to, although a heart attack will likely kill me first as it's been 11months now.

Could. Maybe. Probably. Unsure. Tentative. Cautious. Unpredictable. Probable. Convincing. Credible. Feasible. Tenable. Plausible. Possible. Perhaps. Obtainable.

Snooze your life for 3 more years people. This government has no clue not only how to increase both capacity as well as quality of services offered in Irish hospitals. I had no other option but to travel abroad to seek medical help twice last year.

I don't understand. If 82% will be vaccinated by the end of June, then surely, we will be ‘close to normal’ on July 1st?

End of June? Great.

God it would be great if that was a possibility and it could be and then they decide on this

Where have I heard this before? Oh yeah, 2020.

The only time we will get close to normality is when FF and FG are banned from government. A nest of vipers poisoning everything in our country for self gain and their pockets with fat pay cheques and pensions.

Fuck off with the gloom. Start opening low risk stuff now

I've read that the nphet thinks differently due to our poor health system, which I tend to believe. I can't get smear test or breast X ray or a blood test, because only covid is a priority. So we save covid patients but the rest of us? We are not quite ready

Many will be disappointed. Lots of folks settling in to the new normal, enjoying restrictions and living in fear.

Vs yesterday’s story... 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ ffs... I don’t know who’s worse nphet or the Irish Times...ronan_glynn

Nearly a year away to ‘nearly’ normal I don’t think so. The PCR fraud case will be heard in July and his house of cards will come tumbling down after that.

Yea and I maybe perchance possibly could conceivably supposedly might even win the Euromillions tonight 🧐

We are being subjected to two years of deaths, business closures and debt because of the total incompetence of our so called leaders!! Shame on them. If I wrote what I really feel I would be prosecuted!

There can never be a 'normal' again. NPHET and the WHO have said there will be more pandemics so we need to act now. We need a permanent lockdown. If we create a culture of permanent lockdown we can all stay safe and will protect our frontline workers and elderly. WeCanBeZero

Are they changing their tune? They’ve balls the size of marbles.

It's time they stopped beating around the bush. We need permanent lockdowns. It's the only way we can avoid this virus. Unfortunately, the vaccines won't stop it. This virus will be with us forever. Lockdown4ever

Finally, a bit of positivity 👏👏👏

I am in it for the long haul and have been since last March. Proud to say that I have not been a node of contact that contributed to someone's death. The lockdown is working, let's keep it working. We need to hold firm now more than ever.

Dear RoRo... please, do us all a favour, fuck off, and when you’ve fucked off over there, just fuck off some more, and when you think you’ve reached peak fuck off ness, just fuck off a little fucking further. Thank you.

Ireland could tropical by the end of the year! 🙄

Will you lot make up your mind!

Yesterday it will be with us for years ? Changes by the hour 🙄

This drip drip feed of good Covid news one day, bad news the next day is exhausting.

Yeah right

We could be normal next week of people stopped going along with the shite.

Time to end the lockdown so. NoMoreLockdowns LockupNPHET FFGOut

That is good news. The more people who are vaccinated the safer we all will be. Sleeve rolled up, ready for mine whenever.....

Just juggling the covid figures ....

“Ireland could return to “close to” normal by the end of the year”. That’s the guts of 12 months. Getting full wages to stay in the house? Then you are blessed. Getting the PUP? Then not so much. MlMcNamaraTD FatEmperor

Normal does not include a vaccine passport or a mask .... just sayin'
