On January 8th, Prof Murphy saw young people queuing in the hospital for vaccination and assumed they were the medical students. At 8.32pm, she sent an email to the Coombe executive team thanking them for including the students.
She said the vaccination of low-risk family members “discredits the profession”. Her daughter has been working for her as a receptionist during the pandemic, she said. She was also writing the letter because the reputation of the hospital had been damaged and she was a senior member of the clinical/academic staff.
But Prof Murphy said the information that at least six doses could be obtained per vial was known by the HSE and from experience in Israel.
Inquiry.... an inquiry into why surplus vaccines were used. What a pathetic waste of time and resources
I remember reading that article - I believed what Prof Michael O’Connell said - I thought at least the vaccines were not waisted - but to find out medical students were on standby and not given the vaccine is just disgraceful - fair play to Prof Deirdre Murphy -
He should be fired, but as this is Ireland nothing will be done. Disgraceful.
Shows the disregard for students who help keep the hospital functioning...Dirt on the bottom of the seniors shoes
Thank you Prof Murphy. His explanation is *untenable* is a mild description of what happened. As the hospital chief, and presumably not doing the vaccinating himself, how did he pressure those operating the system to get his kids done before the student nurses?
Disgraceful. Was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt, but this is disgusting, seriously undermines public trust: people will think 'They're all at it, looking after themselves'.
Leave the man alone. He did what he felt was right. The strict way is the way to see nothing except what you want to see.
