It comes as Donald Trump last month suggested injecting patients with ‘disinfectant’ and blasting them with light to treat coronavirus.UV AND DISINFECTANTThe president was speaking at a White House press briefing following the publication of a study showing that UV light and disinfectants could both kill the virus on surfaces.

"Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous force, whether it's ultraviolet or just very powerful light?" he asked Department of Homeland Security official William Bryan."And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body which you can do either through the skin or in some other way.

"And I think you said you're going to test that too? Sounds interesting."But cancer researcher Grimes slammed these claims and gave four reasons why we should wear sun protection this weekend.'NONSENSE'He said: “Hearing lots of "UV kills coronavirus, so go out in the sun!" takes.

“But it's nonsense because-“(a) UV can't kill virus INSIDE you.“(b) 0% UVC (virucidal band) reaches Earth.“(c) that's a good thing because UVC is HIGHLY carcinogenic.“(d) Actually, all UV is carcinogenic...seriously, extreme UV at ionisation threshold super cytotoxic.

“That our atmosphere filters out UVC is the only reason DNA-life could evolve on surface.“UVA & UVB also damaging to both DNA AND collagen.“If you're in sun, wear protection - but it'll do bugger all for #Covid19”.'DON'T FORGET SUNSCREEN'

NPHET member Dr Cillian De Gasgun chimed in by retweeting Dr Grimes and adding: “I’m not a physicist, but I know a man that is!“Know your A,B,C and don’t forget the sunscreen.”Last night it was revealed nine more people have died due to Covid-19 in Ireland.
