British Prime Minister Boris Johnson spent the night in hospital after being admitted for tests following ten days of persistent symptoms of Covid-19, but the UK government has insisted that he remains in charge.
"I'd like to say thank you to all the brilliant NHS staff taking care of me and others in this difficult time." Conservative leader Mr Johnson, 55, was admitted to hospital last night for tests in what his office said was a "precautionary step". The Times newspaper reported that he had been given oxygen treatment.
Mr Jenrick said that despite being in self-isolation, the prime minister has "been working extremely hard" and he would stay in charge even from his hospital bed. Asked whether Mr Johnson will spend more nights in hospital, Mr Jenrick said: "He will obviously take the advice of doctors and nurses who are doing those tests and act accordingly."
The former head of the UK civil service, Lord Kerslake, said it would be "sensible" for Mr Johnson to "step back" if he is not well enough to carry out his role for now.
And what? He. Spoke. That's not a story - he's not incapable of speaking given that his mouthpiece, the BBC just reported 'he still, amazingly, gets his red dispatch boxes each night'. Wise up RTE.
Not a fan of any in Westminster but I wish him and all in a similar position a speedy recovery
