Union says picket at Allied Bakeries in Belfast an attempt to get better pay for workers

Workers are picketing the gates of one of Northern Ireland’s largest bakeries as part of industrial action intended to disrupt production ahead of Pancake Tuesday.

Unite says workers in the bakery sector are “only making up a living income by working unsocial shifts and meeting challenging bonus targets” as the basic pay on offer “is little above the bare legal minimum”. Allied Bakeries is owned by Associated British Foods, which lists Ryvita, Twinings and Primark among its brands. It reported a profit of some £1.4 billion in the year to September 14th last.A picket began at the Allied Bakeries site on the Castlereagh Road at 6am on Sunday and the union said the aim was to disrupt the company’s preparations for Pancake Tuesday on February 25th.

😱

Noooo not Pancake Tuesday

As Dr Phil (Magraw) says: 'Whatever way you fry a pancake, its got two sides!'

Seriously, it’s 2 cups of flour, a teaspoon of sugar, a pinch of salt, a teaspoon of melted butter, 2 eggs and a cup or so of milk. Do not despair. PS: dump the first one 😀

Plain flour. Eggs, salt, caster sugar, oil, milk, a whisk and 3 minutes..

Big business not giving a crêpe about workers, as usual.

Eggs 🥚 Flour 🌾 Milk🥛 Mix 🥣 Flip 🥞 That is the joy of it, why on earth is anyone buying pre-made pancakes anyway. It is borderline sacrilege.

Make yer own!
