Almost 1,000 new speed cameras set to be installed across Ireland in bid to crack down on rogue drivers

Almost 1,000 new speed cameras will be installed across the country in a bid to crack down on rogue drivers. The existing 419 zones will continue to operate bringing the overall total to 1,322 zones, while 575 previous zones have been removed following a review. To date there have been 13 road deaths in 2020, just seven weeks into the new year.

Safety cameras operate in areas where there is a history of speed related collisions, known as speed enforcement zones, using a fleet of marked vehicles. In Q1 of 2019, 85% of fatalities occurred outside GoSafe zones. “We urge drivers to be fully aware of the posted speed limit and drive within the speed limit for the duration of their journey. Speed kills, help save lives.”
